Tôi nhận được Bản tin do Senator Tina Smith gởi, xin chia sẻ với quý vi hoàn cảnh hiện nay liên quan đến tiểu bang nơi chúng ta đang cư ngụ.
Mong rằng chúng ta vẫn được bình an vi CĐVN vốn là CĐ biết cách sống nơi đất khách quê người và nay đa số đã trở thành công dân Hoa Kỳ.
Tôi đến MN từ tháng 6, 1975 và sinh hoạt đắc lực từ 1975 đến 1990. Sau 1990 chuyển sang thành lập Công Đồng VN Toàn Quốc Kỳ. Cả hai Công Đồng hiện nay đang sinh hoạt qua nhiếu năm tháng bởi quý vị tiếp nối phục vụ Cộng đồng. Chúng ta cần giao tiếp liên tục với chính quyền không phân biệt Dân Chủ hay Cộng Hoà vì phúc lợi chung của cộng đồng Việt Mỹ.
Tại MN, từ năm 1980, trong tư thế đai diện Cộng đồng, tôi đã hướng dẫn phái đoàn người Việt tỵ nạn CS đầu tiên đến thăm Thống Đôc Cộng Hoà Al Quie, cám ơn lòng nhân hậu của nhân dân và chính quyền Minnesota đã tiếp nhận hằng ngàn người Viet đến MN và đã trÌnh bày hoàn cảnh nguời tỵ nạn, đống thời thảo luận vế các vấn đề an sinh, y tế, xả hối và anh ninh cho CĐ VN mới đến định cư. Cũng trong năm 1980, chúng tôi đã thăm viếng các vi Thi Trưởng Minneapolis, St Paul và các vi Giám Đốc FBI, Cảnh Sát của 2 thành phố va cac thanh pho lân cận. Qua thời gian sau nhiệm kỳ của Thông Đốc Công Hoà, chúng tôi đã viếng thăm Thống Đốc Dân Chủ Judy Peptit và nhân bằng Tuyên Dương do Thống Đốc trao ban trước Dinh Thống Đốc.
Thật ra, chúng ta là dân tỵ nạn, không phân biệt Công Hòa hay Dân Chủ. Cả hai đảng đếu là ân nhân của chúng ta cũng như là ân nhân của Việt Nam Cộng Hòa trước 1975.
Mặc dù, thực tế cho ta thấy một số những lớn tuổi có khuynh hướng bỏ phiếu cho CH và lớp trẻ thiên về DC. Chúng ta tôn trọng mọi quyền tự do hiến định.

Last week, Minneapolis was once again thrust into the national spotlight for a horrific tragedy in our community, this time at the hands of the Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.
Like so many Minnesotans, I am heartbroken and angry. We all saw the video, and we know in our hearts how deeply wrong and unjust this is. Renee Nicole Good was a U.S. citizen, a mother, and a Twin Cities resident. My deepest sympathies go out to her family and loved ones. I can’t imagine the grief they are enduring.
The Trump Administration is weaponizing fear and using intimidation in ways that are making our communities less safe, but Minnesotans are standing strong against this chaos. We will not cave in to their attempts to sow fear in our community. They have underestimated the resilience of Minnesota.
A lot of people have been asking me what you can do to help our community right now. First, I’ll say this: We are not hopeless, nor are we helpless. I’m tremendously proud of how we are watching out for each other and helping our neighbors under incredibly difficult situations.
I’m thinking of the students around the state who have staged peaceful walkouts because they are so worried about their teachers, classmates and friends. I’m thinking of the peaceful protestors who are handing out food and water and comfort in the cold January days. I’m thinking of the tens of thousands of people who gathered in solidarity at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis and all around the state last weekend to peacefully show our support for Renee and our community.
So, what can you do? You're doing it. We need to keep showing that Minnesotans look out for each other and that we are strong and resilient. In our community, we stand up to bullies. Our strength is in our unity and in our peaceful demonstrations. Find solidarity with one another. Continue looking out for your friends and neighbors and be safe as we navigate whatever comes next.
Last weekend I visited 34th and Portland, where Renee was shot and killed, just a few miles from where Archie and I live. I was so moved by all the Minnesotans showing up to pay their respects and lay flowers, even though most of us never knew Renee. This shows the strength of our community.
As your Senator, I will continue speak out against the unlawful tactics of ICE. We are pro-public safety in Minnesota, and we can see that this ICE campaign is making us less safe. They should immediately stop this campaign which is ripping parents away from their children, detaining and arresting U.S. citizens – including children – with no cause, disrupting businesses and schools, and stomping on the civil rights of all of us. If a federal agent can drag a U.S. citizen out of their car and handcuff and arrest them with no cause, none of us are safe. I will continue to work in the Senate to hold federal law enforcement and ICE agents accountable for unlawful actions, and to push for a fair and unbiased investigation into what happened. And I will work with my colleagues to completely overhaul how ICE functions in our communities, so these abuses can’t happen in the future.
I know people are scared right now. So please, be safe. Know your rights. Carry your identification documents. Seek out an immigration attorney if you have questions or concerns. Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other, Minnesota.
